Beware Windows Update and manufacturers’ drivers! I have uncovered that neither are reliable for making sure you get the latest version drivers for your device, and in fact, for this, the EETI PCAP Multitouch Digitizer 1.2.0.0, I could only even ascertain that it was a valid and available version from a couple of scattered forum threads and obscure driver sites.

Looking for the best stylus? I recommend:

Acer’s own website still lists v1.0.0.0 from all the way back in 2009, well before the Iconia w500 was even out of R&D!

Windows update did find a driver, but when “installed” the driver version had not seemed to change. This happened again with a copy of 1.2.0.0 I manually downloaded and attempted to install. “The latest driver for this device is already installed”. Huh. Could have fooled me!

So, long story short, I examined the instruction file for the driver and found it had some bad references, so I fixed them. And now I have made the fixed driver available. To my knowledge, this is just about the only place you can find a working 1.2.0.0 EETI PCAP Multitouch Digitizer driver at this time. It is dated January 2011, and in my experience I have had far fewer system freezes and other bugs experienced since the upgrade.

That said, I make no warranties – install at your own discretion. Let me know if it helps you!
