I am happy and honored to be a part of the official celebrations of Finland’s centenary year! This is a brief announcement of projects I will be releasing over the course of 2017 and why they are something to look forward to for people of all backgrounds!

SISU SAVED ME

SISU SAVED ME: THE STORY OF FINNISH RESILIENCE is a book for Finns and non-Finns alike, who wish to explore the secrets of tapping into hidden strength through the Finnish concept of sisu. To do so, it takes the reader on a journey of the ancient knowledge, spiritual life and experiences of our Finno-Ugric ancestors, as well as what modern science reveals about our deepest traditions and tools we have relied on for centuries.

Finally, it is a book not only about the people of Finland today, but more so the perspectives of those who have taken this knowledge across the globe – including the migrant pioneers who helped build America – where it has served us and inspired others to live life to the fullest in whatever path they travel.

Containing many charming illustrations, it is the perfect way for those with Finnish ancestry to show and tell the people in their lives just who they really are inside!

Want to share your sisu story, sauna experiences, philosophies of Finnishness, or some unique family history? It’s not too late for inclusion (but will be soon)! E-mail me to discuss your idea. henrik [at] ryosa [dot] com

UKKO

ukkoGN

UKKO is a graphic novel set to be released serially on the internet as well as in printed volumes. A re-interpretation of the Finnish legend of Ukko, it mixes ancient mythology with groundbreaking speculative science fiction in a tale of past, present and future.

The culmination of over a decade’s work by the author creating a mythos and artstyle representing his Finnish heritage but aimed toward western audiences, UKKO is great reading suitable for young and older adults alike!

BLOG

Of course, an equally important part of the initiative is to continue providing an entertaining and hopefully educational reading experience online to all audiences along the lines of the above and continuing what I began in 2016 with the Forgotten Finland blog. This year, the blog will broaden somewhat in a more generally nordic, but still Finnish perspective and may include video or podcast supplements to the projects listed above or on any topic of interest, as well as artwork, animations and experiments exploring such as well.

This is just an initial roadmap of what is to come and may be subject to changes, but I hope you will look forward to it and follow the H.A. Ryosa official Facebook page for updates as they happen!
